(SCANNED PHOTO) The Duomo of Milan, the city's cathedral, is the largest church in the Italian peninsula after St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, Rome. Although construction began in the 14th century, its glorious gothic facade was not completed until the early 19th century. The Milanese claim that 135 spires and over 3,000 statues adorn the exterior of the cathedral, including the side walls and roof, which would make it the most adorned church in the world.
