A very special plane... by JL Johnson // User47.com

At first glance this looks like any other Southwest Airlines 737 and then you notice the decal on its nose. This was one of three planes in the Southwest fleet to sport the Spirit of Kitty Hawk decal. This plane in particular is very special as it was the very first -300 variant of the 737 to roll off the assembly line. The -300 variant kicked off a new era for the 737, a group of variants now known as the "classic series" which includes -300, -400 and -500 variants. This plane's inaugural flight was on December 17, 1984 which was exactly 81 years after the Wright Brothers made history with their own inaugural flight via the world's first successful airplane. On April 29, 2011 this plane made its last trip across a taxiway and into a hangar at the Frontier of Flight museum in Dallas Texas where it will remain indefinitely. A hat tip to Southwest’s blogging team (link below) and to Paul Thompson for live-tweeting the event.
